Ask someone what they know about Black history and they will usually start in the same place: cotton fields, chains, the Middle Passage. Say it and stop. As if that is the whole record.
March is Women’s History Month. It is a time to recognize the contributions of women whose work has shaped society. But recognition alone is not the full story.
A more important question is this. Why do some contributions become widely known while others remain overlooked?
